Reporter:

Schmeiser Olsen Watts LLP has served for many Fortune 500 Enterprises, such as IBM. According to your experience with them, what kind of qualifications are most valued by big enterprises when they choose intellectual property agencies?

Arlen L.Olsen:

Large corporations tend to look at certain criteria when evaluating an intellectual property firm. They look to quality, administrative capabilities and a proven track record. We have had many of our patents litigated and licensed resulting in awards and fees of over $100,000,000.00. More and more US companies are looking to their IP portfolio as a source of income generation.

The first US company to monetize their portfolio was Texas Instruments. IBM has been the most successful with using their patents to generate $1 billion annually. Microsoft, Eastman Kodak and Nokia are also very successful.

ArlenL.Olsen:

大公司在评估一个知识产权律所的时候,都有一些特定的标准。这些标准包括服务质量、管理能力和所代理案件的历史记录等等。我们帮助这些企业提起专利诉讼或者是将他们的专利进行交易,并获得相应的收益。目前越来越多的美国公司正在寻求将他们的知识产权组合变成一个新的效益增长点,这些都离不开知识产权服务机构。

第一个利用自己的知识产权组合来获利的美国公司是德州仪器,我们服务的IBM也成功地通过专利运营每年创收10亿美金。另外,像微软、柯达和诺基亚等企业也做得非常成功。

Reporter:

SOW LLP has made significant achievement in helping your clients obtaining patents and managing their patent portfolio. Could you please share with us some of your successful experience on patent portfolio management? Could you introduce a significant case as an example?

Arlen L.Olsen:

We have a client that came to us with many competitors in their technology. They had several hundred patents in their portfolio. We have certain mathematical tools which utilize Boolean Logic and Set Theory to derive where the significant gaps lie in the intellectual property. With mapping out the landscape of the patents we were able to analyze where the main competition would need to go to be successful. Our analysis resulted in the securing of patents resulting in several $100,000,000.00 for the client.

Reporter:

Can we know some information about the initial plan of the cooperation between SOW LLP and WTOIP Network? How will two companies share respective resources and marketing activities?

Arlen L.Olsen:

Our first step is to establish an IP trading platform. We would build and market the platform in the United States. Through this platform we will generate several contacts throughout the industry. We envision IP conferences throughout China and US which would eventually expand into the entire world.

ArlenL.Olsen:

Reporter:

For the cooperation between SOW and WTOIP, in your opinion, are there any positive and significant impacts on both Chinese and American clients?

Arlen L.Olsen:

The world is becoming more of a global market place.

Just last month China overtook the US as having the largest GDP which is worth $17.6 trillion. At the same time, China is relatively new to the IP field. SOWs experience in how to monetize and capitalize on IP is important. At the same time, China has a huge potential for growth and needs a seasoned ally in the US to assist. WTOIP having multiple resources throughout China shows greater penetration into the Chinese market than any we have seen. Cooperation between the two offers significant benefits to clients.

世界经济正在行成一个全球化市场。

Reporter:

Many US based firms are looking to monetize their intellectual property in China. Will SOW LLP provide any convenient access to US based firms for their IP monetization in Chinese market through this cooperation?

Arlen L.Olsen:

Yes. We have branded the IPTRADER name in the US as a tool for IP monetization. Working in conjunction with WTOIP, it will offer a convenient one stop location for both US and Chinese clients to access IP in both countries.

What is the plan of SOW LLP to take to expand Chinese market under the support and help of WTOIP network?

Arlen L.Olsen:

We believe that building a worldwide organization is important. The world is becoming such a global marketplace that all economies of the world are interdependent upon each other. Our goal is to assist WTOIP in any way we can with the US market and vice versa. We have launched our cooperation through a joint marketing project in Shenzhen in November 2014 at the China High-Tech Fair 2014 and signed the Memorandum with each other for the further cooperation in future.

Arlen L.Olsen:

我们相信建立一个世界性的组织非常重要。世界正在融合为一个全球化市场,在这个市场里所有的经济体都互相依赖。我们的目标是尽我们所能来协助汇桔网在美国市场上为客户提供的服务工作,反之亦然。2014年11月份,SOW与汇桔网在深圳举办的中国高新技术成果交易会上启动了第一次合作,现在我们签署合作备忘录,是为了未来更好地合作发展。
